Julie Wood
Julie has worked in the NHS for almost 30 years, the last 16 years of which have been spent working in a variety of Director and Chief Executive roles.
She has worked with primary care throughout her career, from the days of FPCs and FHSAs, through Health Authorities, to Primary Care Groups, and latterly Primary Care Trusts.
She has extensive experience in planning and service development from a primary care perspective, and has also been responsible for the commissioning of acute care with locality responsibilities for a population of over 200,000. In a former Director role she was responsible for setting up one of the largest GP locality commissioning pilots in the country. She has had extensive training and development as a national trainer, presenter, and facilitator and in 2000 she completed a postgraduate Masters in Social Science - Health Care Policy & Management degree to complement her academic and professional NHS management and HR qualifications.
She was previously Chief Executive of a midlands Primary Care Trust, a post she held for over 4 years, from its inception to its formal ‘dis-establishment’. As part of her Chief Executive portfolio, Julie was the Chair of a large Cancer Network, chair of the health community Medicines Strategy group, and the chair of the Choose & Book Board.
Julie speaks regularly at local, regional and national events, with clients drawn mainly from the NHS and the pharmaceutical industry, and now works as an independent consultant. She is currently the Director of the NHS Alliance GP Commissioning Federation.
