Where Next for Self Care
Start Date: 09/02/2010
Duration:
Description: If governments are serios about reducing the burden of lifestyle related illness then they need to significantly increase investment in self care now, despite spending pressures, if self care is to reduce costs in years to come. Benefits of self care emerge over time and are often across the whole social framework. In the Uk we now have programmes that have a positive impact on issues such as employment, social care, social cohesion as well as better utilisation of health services and, therefore, need to be driven at government level as a whole population strategy. This symposium, organised by the Expert Patients Programme CIC, will look at the compelling evidence to date, best practice from the Uk and internationally, what needs to happen next and, in particular, the role of the expert patient in shaping health and social care services. contact pnicklin@health-links.co.uk for further information.
