Welcome to the Nurses in Commissioning Network

The Nurses in Commissioning Network is lead by Ursula Gallagher.

Following the changes to the NHS Reforms post Future Forum, the NHS Alliance is delighted that nurses will have a place on consortia commissioning boards. We are aware from our networks that consortia might appreciate some help in terms of developing these roles and have posted a sample job description and person specification below. (Thanks to Jill Freer, Director of Nursing, West Mercia Cluster, West Midlands). Nurses will also need developing to operate at this strategic and corporate level- it is a very different role even from being a PEC member. We want to support them however we can, as if they fail, it will impact both upon the effectiveness of the consortia in commissioning good quality patient services, as well as the image of nurses as effective Board members. Through our Nurses in Commissioning Network we aim to find ways to assess and support their development needs. We may be able to offer mentorship from experienced nurse directors for example. Do contact us at u.gallagher@nhsalliance.org and we will get back to you.
