Alliance’s GP Commissioning Federation takes the lead
Released: 31/08/2010
The NHS Alliance’s GP Commissioning Federation council has had its inaugural meeting this month in London. The event was attended by a large number of clinical leaders representing all regions in the country; these leaders bring with them a wide range of experience, expertise, views and successes in clinical commissioning.
Dr Amit Bhargava, co-lead of the GP Commissioning Federation, said: “The meeting was marked by a strong belief, enthusiasm and drive to make general practice led clinical commissioning work. The GP Commissioning Federation council will be in the forefront in leading and stewarding the clinicians for successful, fair and wise implementation of GP commissioning.”
Members of the GPCF council agreed to assist in the White Paper consultation on GP commissioning and the transition process. Dr Bhargava added: “We had a lengthy debate and consensus about the critical value of the transition where behaviours, work plans, resource allocation and phased delivery are tightly managed for success. We look forward to taking on the challenge of making GP led commissioning work after the consultation and negotiating period.”
The GPCF is a multi-disciplinary group, which includes a range of clinical commissioners from across the country, including GPs, clinicians from secondary care and community services as well as PBC consortia CEOs and PCT commissioners.
Ends.
