Merron Simpson: chief executive
Merron Simpson is director of New Realities Limited. She is a thought leader, a national and local advisor, and a consultant specialising in ‘people, places, housing and health’. She is committed to connecting big picture ‘strategic’ thinking with real ‘practical’ solutions that have a positive social and health impact.
Merron started her career in research and development for two clinical diagnostics companies; her first degree is in Biochemistry. She changed direction, completing a Masters degree in housing studies in 1999, and has worked in housing policy, strategy and research for around 20 years. She was Head of Policy at the Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) between 2003 and 2008. In this role she advised government on many areas of housing, provided vision and thought leadership to professionals working in housing and related professions and led the CIH’s policy work programme. Previous leadership roles include the Town and Country Planning Association (TCPA) Policy Council and Board Member of a housing association.
In her current role, she has worked with the Local Government Association, Dept of Health, Association of Directors of Adult Social Services, Housing Learning and Improvement Network, Young Foundation as well as housing associations, local authorities, housing partnerships, shadow health and wellbeing boards and social enterprises. She is the UK Lead for OpenStrategies. She has recently undertaken several projects while working with the NHS Alliance as the National Executive Housing and health lead.
Merron has authored many publications and resources on housing and health, strategic housing and planning, coproduction and personalization. She has a Post-graduate Diploma in Applied Management and is a Chartered Member of the CIH.
